Choosing a hospital and specialist abroad

A practical checklist for comparing hospital experience, specialist credentials, communication and continuity of care.

Match the team to your care needs

Begin with the specialty relevant to your situation and ask who will assess your request. Confirm the doctor’s current practice affiliation and the hospital where care would take place. A directory entry helps you explore options; it does not confirm an appointment or establish that a particular treatment is suitable for you.

Check credentials and facility details

Ask how to verify the specialist’s registration, qualifications and relevant experience with the appropriate professional body. For a hospital accreditation claim, check the facility name, accrediting organisation and validity. A hospital group’s credentials should not automatically be treated as those of every branch. Accreditation is one consideration, not a guarantee of an individual outcome.

Ask how the proposal is developed

Find out whether a specialist has reviewed your information or whether you have received a preliminary administrative estimate. Ask what further consultations or tests are needed and how alternatives will be discussed. You should know who will explain expected benefits, risks, recovery and consent before accepting a treatment plan.

Plan communication and support

Confirm the languages available during consultations, consent, admission and discharge, and whether an interpreter costs extra. Ask for a named contact and the hours they are available. Check accessibility, companion arrangements and practical support relevant to your stay. Do not assume a coordinator is the clinician responsible for medical decisions.

Check what happens after discharge

Before choosing, ask who will provide discharge documents, prescriptions and follow-up appointments, and how your home clinician can receive information with your permission. Discuss who to contact if a concern arises after returning home. Keep these arrangements in writing alongside the proposed costs.

Continue planning

Discuss your care plans

Include your country code. For example, +91 for India or +1 for the US.No medical reports or detailed medical history needed.A free estimate request. The provider confirms the scope and costs after review.
